On 27 November, Anna Meredith, one of the UK's leading contemporary composers, presented her piece Varmints, performed together with her band and the Tbilisi Youth Orchestra. The Varmints was Anna Meredith's debut album, which won the prestigious Scottish Album of the Year award in 2016 and became Loud & Quiet’s Album of the Year. She was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2019 Birthday Honours for services to music.
The newly established Tbilisi Youth Orchestra, led by Mirian Khekhunaishvili and Mikheil Mdinaradze brings together young musicians aged 18 to 28. This was the first experience of performing together with the electronic band. Tbilisi Youth Orchestra’s mission is to build a successful team focused on creating and maintaining high-level European standards of performance, which will provide Georgia’s professional orchestras with professional performers in the future.
