Supporting Creative Industries Mapping in Georgia is our new flagship project aiming at fostering mapping and research skills and activities within the creative industries sector in Georgia in partnership with Creative Georgia and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. We plan to achieve this through innovating the way in which actual mapping is designed and delivered.

We, as the British Council commissioned a highly reputable creative consultancy from the UK to consult preparation of a set of general recommendations for research and mapping activities in the creative industries sectors in Georgia from January to March 2021.

The project enables the UK creative consultancy and the selected consortium made up of Georgian cultural institutions to collaborate and jointly prepare a set of general recommendations for research and mapping activities in the creative industries sectors.

Why we are doing this?

Development of Culture and  Creative Industries (CCIs) is one of the eight priorities in the national Culture Strategy 2025.

The UNESCO Culture for Development Indicators process revealed a high contribution of CCIs to economy and employment in Georgia i.e. share of culture in total output is 2.8%, which could be used as an alternative figure for GDP too, involving 5.1% of the workforce in Georgia, but these figures are under-estimates, which require more detailed study.

How we are doing this and what we want to achieve?

The project is not limited by the mapping or research work but also envisages training, mentoring activities as well as the provision of the additional online consultancy.

Through these efforts partnering organisations believe to support the Creative Industries in Georgia to overcome the facing challenges as cultural and creative sectors are important and have high potential in terms of their economic footprint and employment. They also stimulate innovation across the economy, as well as contribute to numerous other channels for positive social impact (well-being and health, education, inclusion, etc.).
